Course: Preceptorship
Preceptorships provide a unique context for building relationships wherein Preceptees and Preceptors connect to build trust and rapport, to communicate accurately and effectively, to explore ways to manage stress and conflict through situational awareness and problem solving safely. Preceptorships are formal agreements between or among individuals to engage in a time-limited apprenticeship generally reliant on proximity. It is grounded in a relationship constructed to partner seasoned, experienced employees (Preceptors) with students, the newly qualified or graduated, new hires, or those transitioning to new positions (Preceptees) to facilitate their onboarding and integration into new roles and responsibilities in learning and work environments.
In this course, participants will discover how effective, consistent, thorough preceptorships are major factors in the recruitment and retention of qualified staff at every level of a safe and operationally exceptional organization. They will learn more about describing the competencies for Preceptors and exploring the scope and standards of practice for Preceptors. When mutual trust and respect are conveyed through peer partnerships, shared work experiences, and listening and facilitating another’s transition into service, an effective preceptoring relationship (a preceptorship) unfolds within the context of coaching and mentoring activities with Preceptees.
