Scope and Standards of Practice and Performance for Preceptors

This book describes a scope of practice and performance, competency-based standards, roles and responsibilities, and accountabilities for the specialty of preceptoring. It supports the intent of the AAPA to contribute to advances in preceptoring by ensuring that qualified Preceptors have a strong foundation grounded in national standards of practice and performance. These standards serve as authoritative statements by which those in leadership, academia, and health care, those who provide care and services to others who engage in preceptoring, may practice within the roles, populations, and specialty governed by this work. These statements are not prescriptive and broadly describe the duties Preceptors are expected to perform within their realms and dimensions of proficiency within any organization and service or practice setting.
