Preceptorship Basics for Preceptors and Preceptees

The Preceptorship Basics for Preceptors and Preceptees handbook is a compilation of tips and tools to help participants in preceptorships develop their professional skills as they advance their understanding of preceptor and preceptee roles, competencies, and responsibilities. There are guides for exploring how adults learn, creating a climate of learning, and validating competencies. You can explore ways for providing and receiving feedback positively and constructively and evaluating your preceptoring processes, relationships, and preceptorships. Confronting reality shock and “letting go” as preceptees transition into practice can be difficult for both the preceptor and preceptee. The tools provided in this small handbook can help support preceptorships as participants engage in a partnership with leaders, educators, interprofessional colleagues and interdisciplinary team members to ensure preceptors have the resources and support they need to ensure preceptees can confidently engage in safe, competent practice, service, and work.
